BACOLOD CITY – An 86-year-old American tourist drowned while swimming at a beach in Barangay 2, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, last Wednesday.
The victim, a resident of Kansas, USA, had been temporarily staying at a resort in Kabankalan City.
Police Captain Jose Michael Muñez, deputy chief of the Sipalay City Police Station, reported that the victim went swimming after having lunch with a friend at the beachfront. Unfortunately, he drowned due to strong waves.
Despite efforts by his friend and other concerned citizens to save him, the victim was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Authorities are working to contact the victim’s family through his friend to inform them of the incident and arrange for the repatriation of his remains.
