BACOLOD City – An elderly man died while his grandson was wounded after their e-trike was hit by an ambulance at Hacienda Layagon road, Barangay Lalagsan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental last Monday.
The fatality was identified as Emeterio Ordas, 72, of the said village.
Wounded was his 12-year-old grandson, whose name was withheld.
Police Master Sergeant Polen Jabagat, traffic investigator of La Castellana Municipal Police Station, said that an ambulance driven by Jether Yutob, 44, of Isabela town, was tailing the victims who were on their way home.
Jabagat said the ambulance was on its way back to Isabela town after it brought a patient to a hospital in La Carlota City when the accident happened.
Jabagat said that Yutob alleged that he did not see the e-trike driven by Ordas since the area was not well-lighted and a portion of the road is under repair. It was also raining at that time, he added.
Ordas was taken to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. His grandson suffered minor injuries.
Yutob is under police custody, pending the filing of charges against him.
