BACOLOD CITY — A 70-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were killed, while two other people were injured after an ambulance driven by a barangay captain crashed into a concrete post in Purok Biante, Barangay Recreo, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.
Police identified the fatalities as Daliaq, a patient, and Peter, an ambulance staff member, both residents of Isabela town.
Injured were Stephen, 48, captain of Barangay Sebucauan, and Maria, 50, the patient’s companion, who are both also from Isabela town.
A police investigation showed that the ambulance was taking the elderly patient from Isabela to a hospital in Bacolod City during heavy rain.
Investigators said the driver tried to avoid a vehicle in front of the ambulance, causing him to lose control.
The ambulance swerved to the right side of the road and slammed into the concrete post of a solar streetlight.
The patient and the staff member were declared dead at a hospital, police said.
Stephen and Maria are recovering at a hospital.
