An alleged New People’s Army (NPA) member was hurt during an entrapment operation morning of June 27 at Makato, Aklan.
Prince Egudas, 34, of Barangay Lahug, Tapaz, Capiz, was shot in his leg after he resisted arrest.
Members of the Makato Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) rushed Egudas to Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital in Kalibo town for treatment.
Members of the Aklan Police Provincial Office and operatives from the Philippine Army’s 301st Brigade, 12th Infantry Battalion, 3rd CMO Battalion, and 3rd Military Intelligence Battalion joined forces to arrest the suspect following reports of his alleged extortion activities.
Reports from the Aklan PPO claimed that a businessman informed authorities about the alleged racket.
The businessman allegedly received a letter from the NPA’s Coronacion Chiva Waling-Waling Command demanding money.
The recovered evidence included boodle money, marked money, mobile phones, and a fragmentation hand grenade.
Meanwhile, Colonel Victorino Romanillos, Aklan police chief, urged the public to take part in sustaining the peace and order in the province.
“As part of PNP chief General Benjamin Acorda’s five-focused agenda dubbed as aggressive and honest law enforcement operation, it is my appeal to all peace-loving Aklanons to be part of our cause to serve and to protect our people by keeping the province free from any and all threats of terrorism,” he said.
The provincial top cop assures everyone that the incident does not in any way affect nor undermine the safety and the security of the province of Aklan.
It can be noted that Aklan was declared an insurgency-free province on December 2011.
