Alleged NBI asset arrested with gun in Roxas

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Police arrested an alleged National Bureau of Investigation asset Monday morning, July 13, after he was allegedly found carrying an unlicensed firearm while driving a colorum, or unfranchised, tricycle in Barangay Lawaan.

Police identified the suspect as alias Victorino, 49, a resident of Tapaz, Capiz, who was temporarily staying in Roxas City.

An initial police investigation showed that a traffic auxiliary stopped the suspect for allegedly operating a tricycle without a franchise.

The suspect denied the allegation and attempted to retrieve a document from his sling bag, police said.

As he reached into the bag, a .45-caliber pistol, two magazines, and 14 live rounds fell to the ground, according to police.

The traffic auxiliary then sought police assistance, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

The suspect claimed that the firearm was licensed and that he had a permit to carry it because he was an NBI intelligence officer.

However, he failed to present documents supporting his claims, police said.

Under Republic Act 10591, as amended by Republic Act 11766, a permit to carry a firearm outside a residence or place of business is issued by the Philippine National Police chief or an authorized representative to qualified applicants.

The suspect remained in the custody of the Roxas City Police Station pending proper disposition.

Police were verifying whether the suspect was an NBI asset or intelligence officer.
