Alleged fake accountant charged in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The National Bureau of Investigation charged before the Roxas City Prosecutor’s Office a man who posed as a certified public accountant (CPA).

Benjie Delfin, of legal age, a native of Brgy. Balingasag Cuartero, Capiz and temporarily residing at Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Baybay here was collared in an entrapment operation last March 16, 2023 following complaints filed by some persons with NBI-Capiz.

Charges for Violation of Republic Act 9298 (Philippine Accountancy Act of 2004), multiple counts for falsification of public documents, and estafa were filed against Delfin who is presently in the custody of the NBI.

According to John Katipunan, NBI Capiz Investigation Agent III, Delfin is not on the list of licensed CPAs of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Katipunan said Delfin allegedly used several identification cards (ID) with his photo but with different names.

Delfin claimed to hold offices on Mabini Street at Barangay Inzo Arnaldo Boulevard and Barangay Baybay here.

Katipunan said several certificates indicating he is a certified and licensed public accountant were found in his offices.

NBI-Capiz called on other victims of Delfin to proceed to their office in Pueblo De Panay and file complaints.

Delfin said he is a bookkeeper but admitted to using the CPA title to get clients.

He challenged the NBI to prove that he falsified public documents. He also denied the estafa case against him.
