BACOLOD CITY – Police are investigating the death of an alleged drug personality whose body was found in a secluded area in Barangay Mandalagan here on Wednesday morning.
Police Capt. Rondyl Tapang, head of Police Station 3, identified the victim as “Jon,” 36, a resident of Barangay Bata.
Tapang said the victim was found lying face down with a gunshot wound that exited through the back of his head from the nose, and his face was partially covered with duct tape.
He said the victim was a suspect in a shooting incident last year in Barangay Bata and was arrested by the City Drug Enforcement Unit in 2019 for a drug offense.
In 2017, the victim was also arrested for theft in the area covered by Police Station 4 and was allegedly involved in other shooting incidents in the city, Tapang said.
A relative positively identified the victim but had no knowledge of his activities before his death, as he would often leave their house, Tapang said.
He added the killing may be linked to the victim’s alleged drug ties or retaliation for his previous offenses.
Police have no witnesses and are still determining whether the victim was killed at the scene or dumped there afterward.
Tapang clarified that the case is not connected to recent incidents in neighboring Talisay City, Negros Occidental, where three bodies were found separately in two villages on Monday.
The Bacolod City Police Office urged anyone with information to contact Police Station 3 to assist in the investigation.
