BACOLOD City – A 42-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing cable wires in front of a gasoline station in Barangay Bata here last Saturday.
The suspect, who is from Toboso, Negros Occidental, was caught in the act by roving police officers allegedly stealing 27 meters of cable wires amounting to P13,500.
His apprehension came nine days after police also caught an alleged cable robber in Barangay Singcang-Airport here on May 18.
According to the police, the suspect was reportedly hired as a helper for a telecommunications firm tasked to repair line connections when he was busted.
His modus was reportedly to pretend as a lineman of a telecommunications firm, based on reports.
Just this month, three persons were apprehended by police amid their intensified campaign against cable theft in the city.
Two weeks ago, the local government here met with junk shop owners to discuss the growing problem of theft and sabotage of telecommunication companies’ internet cables here, and to create awareness about the legal consequences of dealing stolen goods and the responsibility of junk shop businesses to report suspicious transactions.
