All 110 chiefs of police in Western Visayas tested negative for illegal drug use during a surprise mandatory drug test conducted on Feb. 2.
The test was held following a “talk to men” session led by Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, regional police chief, who called all station commanders to a meeting on Monday.
After delivering his guidance and directives, Ligan instructed the chiefs to remain at the multi-purpose hall to undergo the unannounced drug screening.
The test is part of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) ongoing internal cleansing program and integrity monitoring initiatives.
Ligan said the procedure was conducted in line with established PNP protocols and aimed at reinforcing the organization’s commitment to integrity, discipline, and credible public service.
He emphasized that the all-negative results strengthened the principle that police leaders must lead by example.
“It reflects the professionalism and discipline of our police leaders,” Ligan said. “Integrity is non-negotiable in the police service, and this activity sends a clear message that those entrusted with command positions must remain beyond reproach.”
Ligan also noted that the drug test is not merely a compliance requirement but a vital measure to sustain public trust and ensure the credibility of police leadership in the fight against illegal drugs.
He said the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) will continue to conduct regular and random drug testing, along with other integrity-building initiatives, to maintain a drug-free police force and uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct.
“We will remain relentless in enforcing accountability within our ranks. A disciplined and trustworthy police force is essential to delivering responsive, people-centered policing to the communities we serve,” he added.
Ligan reaffirmed PRO-6’s full commitment to supporting the Philippine National Police’s focus agenda moving forward.
