BACOLOD City – All is set for this year’s celebration of one of the world-renowned festivals, Bailes de Luces or Festival of Lights of La Castellana, Negros Occidental on December 30, 2023 to January 5, 2024.
La Castellana Mayor Alme Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan leads the opening program today, December 30, 2023, at the town’s main roads.
The celebration kicks off with a street dancing competition participated by different barangays.
It will culminate with the arena dance showdown of the participating barangays.
The participants for Barangay category A are Cabacungan, Sag-ang, and Robles.
For Barangay category B, the participants are Masulog and Cabagnaan, Manghanoy and Mansalanao, Lalagsan and Camandag, Talaptap and Nato and Biaknabato and Brgy. Puso.
Mangilimutan said Category A is for the bigger barangays while Category B is for smaller barangays clustered into pairs.
She also said that Bailes de Luces has qualified for the 2024 World Championships of Performing Arts that will be held in the United States.
The mayor said preparation is underway for the group that will represent Bailes de Luces in WCOPA.
Bailes de Luces has already performed in several Asia-Pacific countries and was also invited to perform in Italy.
