Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala showed why she is the current no.2 ranked player in the women’s junior after giving the older and more experienced Francesca Jones of America a 6-3, 7-6 defeat in the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria tournament.
The young ace representing the Rafael Nadal tennis academy did not only trounce an older opponent but defeated the ranked 241-player in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
Eala’s power proved to be too much for Jones and overwhelmed her in the baseline game where Eala usually excels in all of her tournament stints.
During her tremendous French Open Juniors’ run, Eala’s groundstrokes were all over her opponents before bowing out to Elsa Jacquemot in the semifinals.
After a canceled Castellon Pro tournament due to inclement weather, Eala and her team went back to the Nadal academy and trained for her first W25 tourney.
With the win, Eala will be off to a second-round appearance in the Las Palmas tourney and will try to pull-off another astonishing performance to try to clinch the $25,000 prize.
