Filipina teen tennis sensation Alex Eala won’t be seeing action in the 2nd round of the W15 Castellon pro tournament after organizers decided to scrap the event due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Initially, the Castellon management set a three-day postponement heading into the second round hoping that the weather might improve but unfortunately it remained the same.
The extreme weather conditions made the court unplayable and organizers have decided to entirely scrap the tourney for the safety of everyone.
After an upset by Eala on 24-year-old hard-hitting Alba Carrillo Marin of Spain in just two sets, the Filipina ace and her team decided to go back to the Rafael Nadal Academy and continue her preparations for her upcoming tournaments.
“After I won my first match, there were 3 days of postponed Round 2 matches. Today, this ITF $15k Women’s Pro Tournament in Castillón, Spain was just cancelled. So for now, it’s back to RNA for me and Coach Mati,” wrote Eala in her Instagram post.
The juniors’ world no. 2 ranked singles player in the girls’ category is seeking to join as many tournaments as she can in the remainder of the year in hopes of overtaking that world no. 1 spot.
