Alexandra “Alex” Eala will open her Wimbledon Championships campaign against world No. 76 Renata Zarazua of Mexico in the first round.
The matchup was confirmed after the draw was held Friday, setting up a familiar duel for the Filipina standout at the grass-court Grand Slam.
Zarazua, 28, will be making her third main-draw appearance at Wimbledon.
The Mexican fell to Emma Raducanu, 7-6, 6-3, in the first round in 2024.
Zarazua improved on that run the following year, reaching the second round before bowing to Amanda Anisimova, 6-4, 6-3.
Eala will be making her second career main-draw appearance at Wimbledon.
The Filipina made her Wimbledon main-draw debut last year, losing to Barbora Krejcikova, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, in the opening round.
Eala and Zarazua have crossed paths before in both singles and doubles.
Zarazua defeated Eala in an ITF tournament in August 2024, rallying for a 6-3, 4-6, 3-6 victory.
The two later teamed up in doubles at last year’s French Open, where they reached the second round.
Wimbledon, one of tennis’ four Grand Slam tournaments, is traditionally considered the sport’s premier grass-court event and often rewards players who can adapt quickly to lower bounces, faster rallies and aggressive net play.
For Eala, the opening-round clash offers another chance to build her Grand Slam experience as she continues to carry Philippine hopes on one of tennis’ biggest stages.
