Filipina tennis stalwart Alex Eala is off to the second round of the 2021 Wimbledon Girls’ Singles event after dumping Solana Sierra of Argentina in just two sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Entering the prestigious Grand Slam tournament as the second-seed, Eala wasted no time showing why as she just quickly ramped the intensity up from the get-go after her first forehand winner connected.
Since then, the Filipina ace never looked back and consistently punished her Argentinian foe with her huge baseline bombs and closed the show in just 50 minutes of action.
Eala was coming off a decent warm-up tournament in London and is seeking to win her first major trophy on the grass surface.
A month ago, Eala and her doubles partner Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva of Andorra raised the championship trophy in the 2021 French Open juniors’ doubles and are hoping to do the same in the singles category.
Eala is currently having a tough time reaching the finals in her recent singles’ stints including the French Open and some pocket professional tournaments.
With the victory, Eala is set to face Ane Mintegi Del Olmo of Spain who is looking to also nab her first win in the doubles category where she reunited with former partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho.
