For the first time since moving overseas to pursue her dream as a full-pledged tennis star, Filipina Alex Eala finally bagged her first International Tennis Federation Grade A title.
Eala stormed through the 18-under Tennis South Africa-Capetown tournament, taking down the higher seeds in the 18-under junior’s ranking.
The Filipina sensation flew to South Africa three weeks after achieving another milestone, qualifying for the US Open Juniors division.
Eala upset the number one ranked Linda Fruhvirtova of the Czech Republic, dispatching her in straight sets, 6-3,6-3.
Right after her championship in the singles division, Eala paired up with American Elvina Kalieva where they reached the semifinals but eventually fell.
The international accolades of Eala will boost her chances of getting called up to the Philippine National team that will represent the country in the Southeast Asian Games.
