Alex Eala clinches 1st win in Castellon pro tennis tournament

Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala is off to a hot start in the 2020 W15 Castellon pro tournament after prevailing over the tough Alba Carrillo Marin of Spain in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6.

The more experienced and older Marin was out-maneuvered by the 15-year-old Filipina ace and was eliminated in two sets.

Moreover, the world no. 2’s booming baseline power proved to be the difference-maker in the match as Marin ate tons of leftie forehands which she wasn’t able to handle through the course of the match.

It was also evident that Eala’s much-improved service consistency gave her the major edge in an impressive 6-1 first set.

However, in the second set, Marin started to come alive and broke Eala’s service to take the lead 3-1 but the Filipina was quick to respond and did not let a deciding set push through.

Fresh from a semifinals stint during the 2020 French Open Juniors Singles, Eala is hoping to gain more points and hopefully take over the world no. 1 spot.

The Castellon pro tournament is the first major tournament Eala has joined since her historic French Open campaign.
