Alex Eala is now out of the 2021 Wimbledon after absorbing heartbreaking losses in both the singles and doubles categories.
Qualified for the Round of 32 in the girls’ singles, Eala couldn’t handle Ane Mintegi Del Olmo of Spain in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
The Filipina star netter was magnificent in the first set as she capitalized on Del Olmo’s streak of unforced errors.
However, the Spaniard found a way to break Eala’s rhythm and tried to give the Filipina different shots to work on that eventually worked.
Eala was unable to recover in the last two sets and got outplayed by the Spaniard as she switched to attack mode and went aggressive on the net.
Meanwhile, Eala and her former partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho also suffered defeat at the hands of Ashlyn Krueger and Chelsea Fontenel, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.
It was one of the most nip-and-tuck affairs in the girls’ doubles category and was decided through a tiebreak in the third set.
Eala and Nugroho fought back in the second set to equalize the match but missed crucial volley rallies in the last four games of the tiebreak.
