One of the most clutch players to ever set foot in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) will be making his official comeback in the upcoming import-laced conference this August with the Converge FiberXers.
Welcome back to the big boys’ league, Alex Cabagnot!
Cabagnot last suited up for the Terrafirma Dyip 10 months ago but failed to receive a contract extension, the reason why the PBA veteran left and played in both international and national professional leagues.
After departing Terrafirma, “The Crunchman” took his talent in Korea and reinforced the Goyang Sono franchise in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
Following his brief stint in Korea, Cabagnot became the center of attraction in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MBPL) when he played for team Bacolod.
His last stop before earning another contract in the PBA was with the Taiwan Mustangs, leading the squad to a convincing campaign during The Asian Tournament.
A nine-time PBA champion and considered as one of the pillars of the San Miguel Beermen dynasty several years ago, Cabagnot is expected to mentor the young pool of guards that will lead the FiberXers’ new journey this year.
Converge had been in a rough patch this past few weeks after the management announced the departure of their former head coach Aldin Ayo with only a month remaining before the PBA Governor’s Cup kicks off.
However, team manager Jacob Lao and the rest of the franchise committee are optimistic that the team will still perform, especially with the addition of Cabagnot.
Cabagnot had already proven himself when he hit some of the biggest shots for the San Miguel franchise during their death five era with June Mar Fajardo, Marcio Lassiter, Arwind Santos, and Chris Ross.
Although Cabagnot’s offensive numbers already took a dip in the past two years, the seasoned floor general still displayed his clutch genes during his last stint with Terrafirma 10 months ago.
Cabagnot will be leading the way for Converge’s young backcourt pool of BJ Andrade, Aljun Melecio, Alec Stockton, and JL Delos Santos.
