Alas Pilipinas Invites 33 for 2025 Tryouts

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has invited 33 players to a high-stakes national team tryout, aiming to form the Alas Pilipinas Women’s roster for three major international tournaments in 2025.

The selected athletes—comprising standouts from the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), the collegiate scene, and overseas—will compete for a spot in the lineup that will represent the country in the AVC Challenge Cup, the Southeast Asian V. League, and the Southeast Asian Games.

“These are quality young players from the professional league PVL, from abroad, and from schools,” said PNVF President Ramon “Tats” Suzara.

“This is a wish list of players for the national team that I fervently want to see competing for our flag and country,” added Suzara, who also serves as president of the Asian Volleyball Confederation and executive vice president of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

The tryouts will be supervised by Alas Pilipinas head coach Jorge Edson De Brito, with exact dates and the venue to be announced.

“We are very confident in selecting the best players in every position,” De Brito said.

“The Philippines has a lot of great talents from the collegiate and pro ranks, and we have been improving ever since I arrived,” he added.

“We just need to work hard to let the players grow.”

The competitions on deck include the 6th AVC Challenge Cup for Women from June 8 to 15, the 5th Southeast Asian V. League (Week 1 from July 25 to 27 and Week 2 from August 1 to 3), and the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand from December 7 to 19.

The roster of invited players spans all positions.

Setters include Angelique Alba, Tia Andaya, Julia Coronel, Jia De Guzman, and Camila “Lams” Lamina.

Libero prospects are Dawn Catindig, Justine Jazareno, Jennifer Nierva, and Hannah Stires from the United States.

Opposite spikers invited are Tots Carlos, Shevana Laput, Faith Nisperos, Alyssa Solomon, and Eli Soyud.

Outside hitters called up include Mhicaela Belen, Evangeline Alinsug, Angel Canino, Vanessa Gandler, Eya Laure, Alleiah Malaluan, Arah Panique, Glaudine Troncoso, Brooke Van Sickle, Shaina Nitura, and Savannah Davison.

Middle blockers in the tryout pool are Thea Gagate, Clarisse Loresco, Madeleine Madayag, Del Palomata, Jeanette Panaga, Jana Phillips, Amie Provido, and Fifi Sharma.

Of the 33 players, 15 are returning members of Alas Pilipinas, reflecting the federation’s aim to maintain core chemistry while integrating rising talent.

Alas Pilipinas is coming off a strong showing in 2023 and 2024 regional competitions, with hopes to secure podium finishes this year under De Brito’s continued guidance.
