BACOLOD City – The Dumaguete City Police Station in Negros Oriental is probing the incident involving a police officer who allegedly shot to death his daughter inside their house at Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City last Sunday.
Police Lieutenant Gregorio Galsim, Dumaguete city police chief, said they will continue to investigate if the killing was intentional or a case of accidental firing.
On Sunday afternoon, Police Staff Sergeant Levi Ege, 54, went home to eat lunch when he had an argument with his daughter, April May, 22.
Galsim said the policeman’s partner heard the victim telling her father to put something on the table, followed by gunfire.
Galsim said Ege allegedly shot his daughter on the head which caused her death.
Ege was arrested at their house after their neighbors called for police assistance.
Police recovered from the scene was a deformed slug and a fired bullet of .9mm caliber ammunition while authorities also confiscated from the suspect his Glock 17 service firearm with a magazine loaded with four ammunition.
Galsim said the victim’s mother passed away a few years ago, and she was living with her father.
Ege, who has been in the police service for 23 years, is assigned as a radio operator at Dumaguete City Police Station.
He has no record for violence, Galsim said.
Galsim said parricide charges are being readied against the suspect who is detained at the police station.
He will also be charged for an administrative offense.
Meanwhile, Galsim said Ege denied the allegations against him, claiming it was just an accident.
