SINGAPORE — Prime Video said March 20 that it will exclusively premiere the Korean coming-of-age series “Absolute Value of Romance” on April 17 in the Philippines and in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
The high school drama mixes awkward teenage moments, bittersweet humor, and heartfelt storytelling as it follows a young aspiring writer navigating high school, friendship, and relationships.
The series stars Kim Hyang Gi, whose credits include “Cashero,” “At Eighteen,” and “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds,” alongside Cha Hak-yeon of “Oh My Ghost Clients” and “Bad and Crazy.”
The cast also includes Kim Jae-hyun of “Twenty-Five Twenty-One,” Son Jeong-hyuk of “You Are the Apple of My Eyes,” Kim Dong-gyu of “Dating Class,” Kim Sohee of “Fragile,” and Singaporean actress Gladys Bay.
“Absolute Value of Romance” centers on Yeo Eui-ju, an ordinary high school student who secretly lives a double life as a web novelist hoping to find success.
Her world shifts when four charming new teachers arrive at her school and become unexpected muses who upend both her daily life and her writing.
Kim Hyang Gi plays Eui-ju, a student who tries to keep a low profile at school but secretly writes daring adults-only novels at night and posts them online.
Despite her enthusiasm, Eui-ju’s writing gets little attention, and although she is observant and empathetic, she has long struggled with real-life romance.
Cha Hak-yeon, a member of K-pop boy band VIXX, plays Ga Woo-su, a striking but reserved man with piercing eyes who rarely smiles.
Woo-su comes from a family of renowned mathematicians and was a math prodigy with an extraordinary memory who taught himself calculations before he could even speak.
After a life-changing incident in which he nearly lost his vision, Woo-su gave up plans to study abroad and instead became a math teacher.
At his new high school, Eui-ju quickly gets on his nerves.
Kim Jae-hyun of rock band N.Flying plays Noh Da-ju, a Japanese teacher and gifted polyglot who speaks multiple languages.
Da-ju is playful, mischievous, and known as the life of the party at school.
Born to a wealthy family, he has been friends with Woo-su since elementary school, and while the two constantly bicker because of their very different personalities, they still care for each other like brothers.
Son Jeong-hyuk plays Jung Gi-jeon, a former luge athlete who retired after a severe injury and later became a sports teacher.
Though he appears masculine, Gi-jeon is clumsy and warmhearted, traits that make him popular among students.
He now sets his sights on turning Eui-ju, whom he sees as a standout runner, into his next sports prodigy.
Kim Dong-gyu plays Yoon Dong-ju, a Korean teacher whose warm and innocent nature sets him apart from his friends.
Although he is the eldest in the F4 group, Dong-ju is often mistaken for the youngest because of his baby face.
He treats students respectfully, always uses honorifics, and never loses his temper.
Kim Sohee plays Choi Go-ya, a stylish and romantic-at-heart student who has been Eui-ju’s best friend for three years.
Gladys Bay plays Jenny, an exchange student from Singapore who brings positive energy wherever she goes.
The series was created and directed by Lee Tae-gon, whose previous works include “Hello My Twenties!,” “Hello My Twenties! 2,” and “True to Love.”
It was written by Lee Min-ju.
The show is produced by Coupang Play, Mediacorp, Good Wave Inc, and Borderless Film.
The series joins a wider Prime Video lineup that includes “Siren’s Kiss,” “Spring Fever,” “Surely Tomorrow,” “Nice to Not Meet You,” “Confidence Queen,” “Head Over Heels,” “GOOD BOY,” “The Divorce Insurance,” and “Newtopia.”
Prime Video said its catalog also includes anime titles such as “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX,” “Jujutsu Kaisen 0,” and “Rurouni Kenshin.”
The platform added that members can also watch award-winning and critically acclaimed originals including “Scarpetta,” “Young Sherlock,” “Fallout,” “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “The Bluff,” “Heads of State,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” “Cross,” “Reacher,” and “The Boys.”
Prime Video said members can watch films and series anytime and anywhere on thousands of compatible devices.
It added that users can download episodes on mobile devices and tablets through the Prime Video app and watch offline at no additional cost.
In the Philippines, Prime Video is available for PHP 149 per month.
