Aboitiz Renewables, Inc., the renewable energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower), through Aboitiz Solar Power, Inc., took part in Fire Prevention Month 2026 activities in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, joining local partners in a mangrove planting of 200 seedlings and a coastal clean-up drive in Brgy. Lemery.
The activity was organized by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Calatrava Fire Station, in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), City Mayor’s Office, Barangay Lemery and Municipal Agriculture Office, under this year’s theme, “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa!”
Beyond fire prevention awareness, the activity brought together local government units, community members, and partner organizations around a shared concern: protecting the coastal environment that many Calatrava residents depend on. Mangroves serve as natural buffers for coastal communities, helping reduce the impact of erosion and storm surges, while supporting the local ecosystem.
Fire Officer II Jeffrey Anobling of BFP Calatrava said the activity highlighted the importance of partnerships not only among local departments and agencies but also with private stakeholders in strengthening community-wide efforts.
“These activities help build stronger partnerships with the BFP, especially in promoting fire safety and encouraging shared responsibility in the community,” said Anobling.
Leo D. Lungay, Vice President and General Manager for Solar and Wind Operations at Aboitiz Renewables, said the company was pleased to join the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Calatrava local government in an initiative that reflects how partnerships can help advance both environmental stewardship and community development.
“Partnerships like this demonstrate that community development and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Through collective action, we can help protect natural resources, strengthen local resilience, and support the long-term well-being of the communities we serve,” he said.
Aboitiz Renewables operates the 173 MWp solar power plant in Calatrava through Aboitiz Solar Power, Inc., currently the largest solar facility in the Visayas. Alongside its energy operations, Aboitiz Renewables continues to work with host communities on environmental and social development efforts in the areas where it operates.
