The ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) has officially confirmed and announced that they will be canceling their 10th season.
Despite several plans and remedies mapped out by the ABL committee, things still won’t go their way after the COVID-19 pandemic caused too much havoc not only to them but also to the participating teams.
“The ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) board has met and announces today that the ABL Season 2019-2020 will be deemed concluded as there is no safe way to complete the remaining fixtures,” the ABL statement read.
League COO Jericho Ilagan explained that the decision was based on thorough discussion and to protect the health of the players, coaches, and the ABL personnel.
“This decision is not an easy one and has not been made lightly. The overriding factor of our social responsibility, health and the well-being of all our stakeholders was at the forefront of the discussion,” continued the statement.
With the league’s cancelation of their ongoing season, the ABL management promised that they will be back stronger and more prepared for the next season.
Before the outbreak of the virus, the Mono Vampire led the team standings with a record of 12-4, followed by Alab Pilipinas with 10-6.
