BACOLOD CITY — A newborn baby boy was found abandoned by the roadside in Hacienda Bernabe, Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.
Police Capt. Honey Labaro, chief of the Murcia Municipal Police Station, said three children searching for spiders heard the baby crying shortly before midnight.
When they checked the area, they found the infant with only his head covered with cloth.
Labaro said the baby’s umbilical cord was still attached.
The infant was immediately taken to the rural health unit.
He will be placed under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Labaro said police have no leads on the person who left the baby in the poorly lit area, which is far from nearby homes.
She said it was the first time such an incident had been reported in the area.
