The Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center in Roxas City shimmered with Art Deco flair as Rotary District 3850 gathered for a Gatsby-themed Governor’s Ball that brought together civic leaders, club officers, and guests from across the country and Asia.
Feathered headdresses, beaded dresses, and sharp evening suits set the tone for a celebration rooted not only in style, but also in service.
At the heart of the evening was Rotary’s enduring call to Service Above Self, reflected in the recognition of outstanding clubs, officers, and members whose work strengthened communities across the district.
The Rotary Club of Iloilo South emerged as one of the evening’s biggest honorees under the leadership of club President Dr. Elsie Locsin.
The club received the Most Outstanding Club award, while Locsin was named Most Outstanding President in the medium-sized club category.
Its other major recognitions included the highest annual fund per capita contribution to The Rotary Foundation, second-highest total club giving to the foundation, and second-highest individual giving to TRF by past presidents Nilo Jardeleza and Dialita Jardeleza.
The club also received the Community Service Award, the Maternal and Child Health Area of Focus Award for its cervical cancer screening project through its TRF Global Grant-sponsored mobile clinic, and the Family of Rotary Service Award.
Past President Eva Jaena was honored with the Exemplary Rotarian Award, adding another distinction to the club’s strong showing.
Three distinguished members were conferred as Paul Harris Fellows: Dr. Rollin Tabuena, a pulmonologist and health care advocate; Dr. Elsie Locsin, an obstetrician and philanthropist; and Brenda Briddon.
The recognitions were presented by District Governor Victor Federico “Pip” Acepcion, with Rotary International President’s Representative Naomi Luan-Fong Lin among the evening’s distinguished guests.
Beyond the awards, the ball carried the easy warmth of a Rotary fellowship, where formal citations gave way to music, dancing, and affectionate applause.
Tabuena, one of the night’s honorees, delighted delegates with a lively performance to Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” earning cheers from the crowd despite limited rehearsal time.
A live band kept the floor moving, adding rhythm and spontaneity to an evening that balanced ceremony with celebration.
“These recognitions reflect the unwavering commitment of every Rotarian to the ideals of compassion, excellence, and Service Above Self,” Acepcion said, congratulating the honorees and fellow Rotarians.
The evening brought together district leaders, past presidents, civic figures, and guests whose presence underscored the reach and fellowship of Rotary District 3850.
More than a glittering tribute, the Governor’s Ball became a portrait of service in motion — a celebration of people who turn recognition into renewed purpose.
