8th fire sub-station activated

BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here has strengthened its fire response following the activation of the eighth fire sub-station in Barangay Mandalagan yesterday.

Fire Chief Superintendent Jerry Candido, director of BFP-6, led the blessing and activation of the Mandalagan fire sub-station in the presence of Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi, acting provincial fire marshal, Chief Inspector Stephen Jardeleza, city fire marshal, and some local government officials.

Candido said they started the activation of sub-stations in Western Visayas at the height of the pandemic in 2021.

He said that he instructed all provincial directors to determine fire stations with more than one fire truck to establish a sub-station.

He said the activation of sub-stations is their remedy to the complaints of the public on immediate fire response.

“Always ang reklamo na dugay. Indi man puwede kalambot dayon (sa lugar) pag may nagtawag kay ma prepare pa and ma travel,” he added.

The remedy is to bring our services closer to the public, the BFP-6 director said.

Candido said the new sub-station has seven personnel. It’s a good number, though not ideal, but barangay tanods were trained to assist them, he added.

He thanked the barangay officials for funding the sub-station, which occupied the former Office of the Senior Citizens Association (OSCA) situated within the compound of the barangay hall.

According to village chief Paul Pabby Anieve, the barangay allocated P20,000 for the renovation of the sub-station.

He thanked the BFP for establishing a sub-station in the village as it will significantly help the residents during emergencies.

He also asked for the cooperation of the people to help the BFP personnel by ensuring fire safety in their respective households.
