ROXAS CITY, Capiz – More than 80 individuals were arrested here for violating health protocols against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Emil Meraflores, head of the Anti-CoVid Enforcers, said the apprehensions were made since they started operating last week.
The Anti-CoVid Enforcers are composed of the Roxas City PNP and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) from 46 barangays here.
Based on data from the Traffic Management Unit (TMU), the enforcers apprehended 85 persons for not wearing face masks as mandated by City Ordinance No. 17-2020
Brgy. Lawaan has the most number of violators with 40.
Under the CO 17-2020, persons caught not wearing face mask will be reprimanded on the first offense. The offender will be brought to the Crisis Center for lecture.
The second offense will be fined P3,000 or a day of community service in case of failure to pay fine, and a fine of P5,000 and or maximum of six months imprisonments upon the court’s discretion on the third offense.
At present, Roxas City has 87 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 50 recoveries, 31 active cases, and 6 deaths.
