8 Negros Occ LGUs surpass  ‘Chikiting Ligtas’ vaccination target

BACOLOD City – Eight Local Government Units (LGUs) in the province of Negros Occidental surpassed their targets for the Department of Health’s (DOH) “Chikiting Ligtas” supplemental immunization program.

Provincial Health Officer (PHO) Dr. Girlie Pinonggan said Tuesday that 197,753 or 87.94 percent of the province’s children have already been vaccinated against measles and rubella.

Only 15,708 children remain unvaccinated.

PHO data showed that Murcia town topped the list with a 105.63 percent accomplishment, followed by Himamaylan City (105.16 percent).

Third on the list is Silay City with a 101.93 percent vaccination rate.

Also on the list are the towns of Candoni (95.57), La Castellana (95.88), Moises Padilla (95.52), and the cities of Kabankalan (97.42) and Talisay (99.21).

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson earlier said he is satisfied with the province’s performance in the program.

He lauded the province’s health workers for their hard work in convincing parents to have their kids vaccinated against polio, measles and rubella.
