A 72-year-old woman died after being hit by a cargo truck on the morning of Aug. 29 in La Paz, Iloilo City.
The victim, identified as Editha, a resident of Zone 1, Barangay Ticud, La Paz, was believed to have died instantly at the scene.
Executive Master Sergeant Julius Uy of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) Traffic Enforcement Unit said the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. as the victim was crossing the road in Barangay Baldoza, La Paz.
The truck driver, Arnel, 46, of Barangay Paga, San Enrique, Iloilo, told authorities he did not see Editha crossing in front of the Fuso cargo aluminum dripside truck.
After being struck, the victim fell and was run over by the truck.
Responders from the Iloilo City Emergency Responders (ICER) team rushed her to West Visayas State University Medical Center, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Arnel is currently detained and will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
