72 ‘open pipe’ mufflers destroyed in E.B. Magalona

BACOLOD City – To minimize noise from motorcycles, particularly during nighttime, policemen confiscated 72 “open pipe” mufflers and destroyed them in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental last Monday.

Police Major Kenneth Jay Gratones, town police chief, said they have implemented checkpoint operations in the town to identify those individuals with motorcycle “open pipe” mufflers.

This is in response to the complaints of some residents about the noise from motorcycles, which they considered a disturbance, especially during nighttime.

Gratones said they started confiscating “open pipe” mufflers in January, in accordance with a municipal ordinance.

Gratones said that violators were issued citation tickets, and their motorcycles were impounded at the police station, as some of them had no documents to show.

Municipal officials led by Mayor Marvin Malacon witnessed the ceremonial destruction in front of the municipal hall.

Meanwhile, the town police force received 44 new pairs of police patrol shoes from the local government that day.

Gratones said that it was promised to them by the local chief executive last month.

In appreciation of the support of the municipal officials, Gratones assured them that they will work harder in maintaining peace and order in the town and go the extra mile in delivering public service to the Saraviahanons.
