Seventy-one personnel of the Iloilo City Police Office have taken the initial step toward becoming Land Transportation Office-deputized agents.
They participated in the two-day LTO Deputation Seminar on April 15–16 at the ICPO Function Hall in Camp Achilles Plagata on General Luna Street in City Proper, Iloilo City.
The participants came from Iloilo City Police Stations 1 to 10, the Iloilo City Mobile Force Company, the Mobile Patrol Unit and the Traffic Enforcement Unit.
Lt. Col. Michael Patosa, chief of the ICPO Traffic Enforcement Unit, facilitated the event.
Lt. Col. Lindley Barrientos, ICPO deputy city director for administration, said the seminar is an important part of the office’s continuing capability-building efforts for its personnel.
“Through this deputation seminar, we are enhancing not only our competence but also our responsibility to ensure safer roads for the public. Well-trained personnel translate to more effective traffic enforcement and better service to our community,” Barrientos said.
The participants also underwent comprehensive lectures on road safety facilitated by LTO-6 personnel Bernard Bacay and Gemmuel Eola.
The training also included neuropsychiatric and medical examinations to ensure the readiness and qualifications of personnel for deputized functions.
The initiative forms part of ICPO’s continuing effort to strengthen traffic law enforcement capabilities among its personnel.
It also aims to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively enforce traffic laws and promote road safety in Iloilo City.
Earlier, the ICPO announced that it would have personnel apply for deputization.
The move is expected to strengthen its campaign on traffic law management and enforcement.
Once deputized, police officers may issue citation tickets to traffic violators when warranted.
