ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Seven individuals were arrested for illegal fishing in the waters of Barangay Balogo, Pilar, Capiz.
The authorities have requested that the names of the suspects, all residents of Estancia, Iloilo, not be disclosed.
According to reports from the Pilar Municipal Police Station, the Capiz Provincial Bantay Dagat Group was conducting a seaborne patrol on the afternoon of Oct. 20 when they caught the suspects engaged in illegal fishing using trawls.
Recovered from the suspects were one pump boat valued at P100,000, a motor engine worth P20,000, fishing nets with accessories worth P200,000, and 30 kilos of assorted fish valued at P75,000.
The suspects and the recovered items were turned over to the Pilar Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office.
Charges for violating the municipal ordinance on illegal fishing and trawling are being prepared against them.
