61-year-old man dies following road rage attack

A 61-year-old man was killed evening of May 16 in what police described as an attack following a road rage incident.
The victim was identified as Rogelio Pacumba, a widower and resident of Barangay Ardemil, Sara, Iloilo where the incident happened.
Suspect Rommel Dopit, 48, of Barangay Hacienda Conchita, San Dionisio, Iloilo and temporarily residing at Ardemil, Sara was subsequently arrested after the incident.
According to reports, the confrontation erupted following a race between Dopit and another motorcycle driven by Marcelino Palomaria, Pacumba’s companion, from Barangay Pasig to Aguirre village.
Dopit reached Barangay Ardemil first and parked by the roadside.
He then flagged the other motorcycle where the victim was a backrider.
A heated argument ensued between the trio.
At the height of their argument, Dopit struck Pacumba’s head with his crash helmet.
Pacumba was taken to Sara District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Criminal charges were filed against Dopit yesterday afternoon.
