BACOLOD City – A six-year-old girl was found dead in Barangay Estefania here late Thursday night.
Major Charles Gever, head of Police Station 4, said the victim was reported missing Thursday after she failed to go home in the evening.
Her family searched for her until her lifeless body was found in a vacant lot a few meters away from their house at around 10 p.m.
Based on a police report, the victim was only wearing an underwear and a t-shirt when found by her mother.
In an interview with the victim’s uncle over DyHB RMN Bacolod, he said the victim went home first after attending a birthday party at their house, where the 24-year-old suspect was also having a drinking session.
The victim’s uncle alleged that the suspect, whom the family know, probably followed the victim on her way home and committed the crime due to drunkenness.
As this developed, Gever said the suspect asked for police assistance after he learned that he was being suspected by the family behind the child’s death.
Gever said he was brought to the police station for safekeeping until he confessed to journalists in separate interviews that he sexually molested and killed the child through strangulation.
Despite his confession, police are still probing if the child was indeed raped based on the result of the medical examination.
The suspect is now under police custody for the filing of appropriate charges.
