6 more GCTA convicts surrender in Negros

BACOLOD City – Six more convicts released through Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) Law surrendered to the authorities in Negros island as of September 16.

Records from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), showed that these convicts came from the cities of Cadiz, Himamaylan, La Carlota, and Silay, and the municipality of Hinoba-an.

In Negros Oriental, a 50-year-old man from Pamplona town turned in himself to the police yesterday.

He was convicted for murder in April 1994 and had served 25 years, two months, and 18 days at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, according to Police Chief Master Sergeant Edelberto Euroba, public information officer of Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo).

He was released from confinement last July 8, 2019. He is now under the custody of Pamplona Municipal Police Station.

Last week, four convicts with heinous crimes in the island earlier surrendered to the police after the cancellation of the GCTA Law.

These convicts came from the towns of Calatrava and La Castellana in Negros Occidental; and Mabinay town and Bayawan City in Negros Oriental.

They were sentenced for homicide, frustrated murder, two counts of murder, and violation of Presidential Decree 1866 or the Unlawful Manufacture, Sale, Acquisition, Disposition or Possession of Firearms or Ammunition or Instruments Used or Intended to be Used in the Manufacture of Firearms of Ammunition, frustrated homicide, and less serious physical injuries, respectively.
