ROXAS CITY, Capiz – 47 houses here will be demolished by the city government as part of road clearing operations mandated by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Affected residents on Hernandez Avenue in Barangay 5 are in quandary on what to do after the City Engineer’s Office issued notices of demolition to them.
According to Aileen, she does not know what to do if their house is demolished as she has no money to buy construction materials.
Another resident, Jimmy, said that he is ready to follow the order but appealed for financial assistance from the government.
Apart from the 47 houses, eateries are also affected by the demolition.
The demolition order was sent to the office of Brgy. 5 on June 3, 2020. Village officials called the affected residents for a meeting two days after receiving the notice.
Under the demolition order, the residents were given 15 days to vacate the area or move their houses three meters away from the right of way.
Punong Barangay Lorilee Aguirre of Brgy. 5 has asked the city government to give the affected residents 45 days to move or vacate the area.
