BACOLOD City – Forty-five persons were arrested for violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law here last year.
The figure is lower compared to 86 individuals in 2019, based on BCPO records.
However, the BCPO seized more firearms in 2020 with 203, against 2019 with 163.
Of the total number of seized firearms last year, 136 were short firearms, two long weapons, and 65 were homemade. The BCPO also confiscated four explosives. A total of 42 cases were filed in court.
Meanwhile, an alleged gunrunner from Cebu was arrested in an entrapment operation by joint operatives of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) – Bacolod and Cauayan Municipal Police Station conducted at Barangay Man-uling, Cauayan in Negros Occidental last Tuesday.
Police identified the suspect as Noe Moreno, 44, of the said village. Policemen recovered from him marked money, boodle money, a .45 caliber pistol, two magazines, ten live ammunition, and identification cards.
According to a report from Police Regional Office (PRO)-6, he was monitored for reportedly selling loose firearms in the area. Moreno was brought to CIDG – Bacolod City Field Unit (CFU) for booking and documentation, while appropriate charges for violation of RA 10591 are being prepared for filing.
The operation was in line with the intensified campaign against loose firearms of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
