40 jail officers enhance firearm capability

BACOLOD City – Forty personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Negros Occidental underwent a three-day advance firearm proficiency training in San Carlos City from July 16 to 18, 2019.

The firearm awareness and maintenance training was conducted by the regional bureau led by Jail Senior Inspector Jobert Tulayan at San Carlos City District Jail.

The training, which was funded by the local government unit of San Carlos, and BJMP-6, aims to enhance the capability of jail officers to deal with all matters that concerns the security and safety inside the jail.

All members of the Special Tactics and Response (STAR) Team of BJMP in the province were subjected to various firearms enhancement activity, such as dry and live firing of short arms like .9mm caliber pistols, shotguns, and long firearms like 5.56 caliber.

STAR oversees the whole bureau in the province, and its members were designated to handle the most critical jail situations.

Jail Inspector Kevin Bonilla, warden of San Carlos City District Jail, said it is important for jail officers to undergo proficiency training on firearms as it ultimately decides whether they can be capable defenders of peace, order, and safety in the community.
