On September 20, 1990, former President Corazon C. Aquino issued Presidential Proclamation No. 647, “Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National Statistics Month”. The proclamation aims to promote, enhance, and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society; and to elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country. This year we are celebrating the 36th National Statistics Month (NSM).
The theme of this year’s NSM Celebration is “Accelerating the SDG Pace of Progress: Mobilizing Data for All.” The SDG or Sustainable Development Goals are 17 goals aimed for the development of this country towards poverty eradication, environmental protection and promotion of well-being. They aimed to make this country and the whole world in general more sustainable to future generation. This theme highlights the importance of statistics as a tool in assessing the country’s progress in achieving the SDG targets by identifying the fast and the slow-moving targets. In this way, the crafting of programs and interventions for identified targets will be done. The Philippines, as a member of the United Nation (UN), adopted SDG framework with 97 targets and 158 indicators of the global action plan, “Transforming Our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. This action plan pledged that no one shall be left behind or “Walang Iwanan.” And as 2030 is fast approaching, everyone is encouraged to support the data collection activities of the government. These data will provide information to our policy makers and planners in order for them to do action plans in accelerating the SDG steps for progress.
In connection with this celebration, various activities will be conducted by government agencies or group of government agencies and the local government units (LGUs) for the whole month of October 2025.

When the force becomes the ‘like farm’
The PNP, in its eternal search for relevance, has discovered engagement metrics. Word in the ranks is that personnel are now being asked — not formally, of course, never formally — to like, share, and comment on the official PNP posts. Hashtags are involved. #PNP is one of them. There may be others. One imagines
