Western Visayas logged 34 new survivors of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on Tuesday, the highest in a day, based on Case Bulletin No. 110 of the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6).
DOH-CHD 6 reported that the survivors included 24 locally stranded individuals (LSIs), 8 repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), 1 authorized person outside residence (APOR) and a local case.
Based on the latest bulletin of the health department, the new recoveries in Negros Occidental include a 58-year-old male repatriated OFW from Kabankalan; 30-year-old male LSI from Hinigaran; 22-year-old male LSI from Escalante City; 10-year-old male LSI from Moises Padilla; 32-year-old female repatriated OFW from Bago City; 31-year-old female LSI from Moises Padilla; 33-year-old female LSI from Himamaylan; and 25-year-old female LSI from Sagay City.
In Iloilo City, the new recoveries are a 27-year-old female LSI from Molo, two 30-year-old female LSIs from Arevalo; 28-year-old male LSI from Molo; 24-year-old female LSI from Madurriao; 22-year-old female LSI from Mandurriao; 61-year-old female LSI from City Proper; 22-year-old male LSI from City Proper; 40-year-old male LSI from Lapaz, Iloilo City ; 38-year-old male LSI from Mandurriao; 39-year-old female repatriated OFW from City Proper; 31-year-old female repatriated OFW from Molo; 37-year-old female OFW repatriate from Jaro; 43-year-old female LSI from Lapuz; and a 37-year-old female from LaPaz.
Among the latest recoveries is a 39-year-old male APOR from Jaro, Iloilo City.
In Iloilo province, patients who recovered from COVID-19 include a 35-year-old male OFW repatriate from Passi City; 30-year-old female OFW repatriate from Tigbauan; 28-year-old female LSI from Miagao; 26-year-old female OFW repatriate from Passi City; 28-year-old female LSI from Dueñas; 37-year-old female LSI from Dueñas; 27-year-old male from Dueñas; 34-year-old male LSI from Dueñas; 35-year-old female LSI from Dueñas; 28-year-old female LSI from Dueñas.
The number of patients who beat COVID-19 in the region jumped to 224, or 37 percent of the total cases in the region as of Tuesday.
Majority of the recoveries are repatriates (130) – 30 from Iloilo City, 29 from Iloilo province, 14 from Antique, eight from Bacolod City, six from Aklan, four from Capiz and three from Negros Occidental.
In a virtual press briefing on Wednesday, Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, DOH-CHD 6 medical coordinator for emerging and reemerging infectious diseases, said a COVID-19 patient can be considered “recovered” from the disease if he/she remains asymptomatic after 14-days of facility or home quarantine even without a negative result from a real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.
“Counting on the first day of quarantine, a patient can be considered recovered if the patient will not manifest any signs and symptoms after the 14-day quarantine. A negative RT-PCR test will no longer be required and the patient can already be discharged,” she said. (ERS)
