BACOLOD CITY – A total of 32 individuals, including a minor, were apprehended for violating the liquor ban here shortly after it took effect on Saturday, May 11.
According to a police report, the youngest violator was 17 years old while the oldest was 69.
The violators were residents of Himamaylan City, Cadiz City, and Cauayan in Negros Occidental, as well as Antipolo City, Batangas City, and Barangays Mansilingan and Alijis in Bacolod.
They were allegedly caught drinking alcohol in public, which is a violation of Commission on Elections Resolution No. 11057.
The resolution prohibits the sale, purchase, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in public places from May 11 to 12 to help ensure peaceful and orderly elections.
The incident was reported to police by Comelec-Bacolod head Revo Sorbito, who has yet to provide further details.
Police said violators may face penalties under existing election laws, including fines and imprisonment.
All 32 individuals were turned over to Police Station 7 for documentation and further processing.
