279 rookie cops join Negros Island police force

BACOLOD CITY — The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region has added 279 newly appointed police officers to its ranks.
The recruits took their oath Wednesday under the 2026 Attrition and Regular Recruitment Program at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office grandstand in Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano Sr. in Barangay Estefania here.
Of the total, 168 were selected under the Attrition Recruitment Program, comprising 136 men and 32 women.
The remaining 111 were selected under the Regular Recruitment Program, comprising 97 men and 14 women.
Attrition recruitment aims to replace personnel who have left the service because of retirement, resignation or other reasons.
After taking their oath, the recruits were formally turned over to the NIR Training Center for basic training to develop the knowledge, skills, discipline and values needed to perform their duties with competence and integrity.
Under Republic Act No. 8551, field training involving patrol, traffic and investigation assignments is a requirement for permanent appointment to the Philippine National Police.
According to PRO-NIR, the recruits are being prepared to protect communities, help prevent and solve crimes, and serve in ways that strengthen public confidence in the police.
Police Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales, PRO-NIR director, led the oath-taking and turnover ceremony and urged the recruits to be disciplined, courageous, honest and accountable.
He reminded them that the badge they would eventually wear should represent both authority and the public trust they had earned.
“Your uniform will identify you as a police officer. Your integrity will define what kind of police officer you become,” he said.
Reales emphasized that integrity is built every day, especially when no one is watching and when doing what is right involves difficulty or personal cost.
He also reminded the recruits that basic training is about developing the character of a police officer, beyond learning to wear the uniform.
Reales stressed that rank does not make an unlawful order right and urged them to have the courage to reject acts that violate the law, their oath or the rights of others.
