Twenty-seven houses were razed when a fire broke out late evening of March 31, 2019 at the heavily populated Barangay Tanza Timawa, City Proper, Iloilo City.
It was the 22nd residential fire incident for March, which happens to be fire prevention month.
Senior Fire Officer 3 (SFO3) Aquilino Sampiano, BFP-Iloilo City operations section chief, said 22 of the houses are in Zone 2 and five in Zone 1.
Eighteen of the 27 houses were totally destroyed while 9 nine were partially damaged.
Sampiano said they received the fire alarm at 11:58 p.m. Just like in previous incidents, the fire quickly spread as most houses were made of light materials.
The fire was put under control at 12:34 a.m. of April 1 and was totalled quelled by 3:10 a.m.
Sampiano said the fire started at the house of a certain Rodel Canilao.
It could be due to loose electrical connection that triggered a short circuit of electrical wiring, Sampiano said.
Damage to property was estimated at P500,000.
In March 2018, only eight structural fires happened in the city.
