ROXAS CITY, Capiz — About 229 household consumers in Capiz use solar power as a source of electricity.
Engr. Edgar Diaz, acting general manager of Capiz Electric Cooperative, disclosed the figure to local media recently.
He said the number was based on data gathered during inspections conducted by Capelco among its member-consumers.
“It shows that several individuals have been supporting renewable energy”, he said.
Diaz said using solar power is not prohibited, but he reminded consumers to inform Capelco management so the cooperative can check their connection systems for safety.
He recommended that household owners using solar panels apply for net metering so they can benefit from billing offsets and recover part of the expenses incurred during installation.
Net metering allows qualified consumers with renewable energy systems to export excess power to the distribution grid and receive credits on their electricity bills.
Diaz said proper inspection could also help ensure the exact distribution of electricity in a house or building to avoid overloading or overheating.
Solar power from the sun is an alternative solution amid rising electricity costs.
