2021 PVL opening may face delay due to COVID-19 surge

The highly-anticipated Premier Volleyball League (PVL) opening might not push through come May 2021 as COVID-19 once again started to wreak havoc in the country.

PVL president Ricky Palou confirmed that they are considering moving the opening date for the safety of the teams and the management.

NCR Plus’ Enhanced Community Quarantine status forced Palou and the PVL management to consider postponing the league’s start, the same as what PBA commissioner Willie Marcial did.

“We will have to discuss our options with the teams. We will have a Zoom meeting this week or next week at the latest to discuss options,” said Palou.

The ECQ status of NCR Plus temporarily prohibited all sorts of sporting activities including small group training regardless whether it was on the professional sports level.

Just a month ago, several teams were already given the go signal to start their training just when quarantine measures started to ease.

Among those who were given clearance by the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) are Choco Mucho, Perlas Spikers, Creamline, Petro Gazz, Unlimited Athletes’ Club, and PLDT.
