ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Around 2,000 trees were planted during the 61st birthday of Dao, Capiz Mayor Jose Jimbo Barruela on Saturday.
The event was the biggest simultaneous tree-planting activity held in the town.
Dubbed “Tree of Hope, Tree of Life: Sustainable Solution for Future Generation,” the activity included the planting of fruit-bearing trees and 10 species of historic Dao trees.
Barruela himself planted the 10 Dao trees.
Also joining the activity were local government unit (LGU) employees, Bureau of Fire Protection, PNP, non-government organizations, civic society organizations, barangay officials, and other volunteers and support groups.
The objective of the advocacy is to protect natural resources and prevent flooding in Dao town.
Barruela thanked the support of the barangay officials from the 20 villages of Dao.
