BACOLOD City 200 personnel of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) underwent drug tests on Jan 31, 2019.
Senior Supt. Romeo Baleros, NOPPO director, said the cops who underwent drug tests are due for promotion.
Baleros said the drug tests are hosted region-wide, and personnel from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), who are also due for promotion, would also soon undergo the same tests.
“Those who want to be promoted to the next higher rank are required to undergo drug tests,” Baleros explained.
The drug tests aim to eliminate police “scalawags” in the ranks.
Those who test positive will again undergo confirmatory tests. If an officer tests positive for illegal drugs in the second test, he or she faces criminal and administrative cases.
