BACOLOD City – Two more personnel of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total cases in the city police to three.
This was confirmed yesterday by Police Colonel Henry Biñas, BCPO director, citing the swab test results of the two police officers released on the same day.
Biñas said the infected policemen were siblings. The female is assigned to the BCPO headquarters, while the male is assigned to Police Station 9.
Both were symptomatic, he added.
Biñas said the male police officer went on sick leave middle of July after he got injured during a police response. He reported back to duty on July 30, but did not return to work the following day, after he felt ill.
The female policeman was on home quarantine since last week after being exposed to a COVID positive patient, he said.
The siblings decided to take a swab test early this month and their results came out positive this week, the BCPO director said. Both of them are on home quarantine.
Biñas said the siblings are on their way to recovery, though the female cop is still experiencing mild sore throat.
Biñas said they are still assessing if there’s a need to lock down Police Station 9, but they already disinfected the station.
He said nobody at the station was quarantined because none of them exhibited flu-like symptoms in the past two weeks.
Of the 658 organic members of the BCPO, two were COVID positive while the other one, the first reported COVID case of the BCPO, is a part of the augmentation personnel from Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 to the city police force.
Despite the two recent cases, Biñas assured that they are taking precautionary measures in order not to hamper their service to the public.
At present, 37 personnel of the BCPO are still on home quarantine.
