ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Two minor cousins died from drowning Thursday morning while swimming in a river at Brgy. Tuburan Maayon, Capiz.
Police identified the victims as Rhea Mae, 7, and Riana, 6, both of said place.
The incident occurred when the victims went swimming in the river in celebration of the feast of St. John the Baptist or San Juan.
The strong river current swept the cousins away until they disappeared in the water.
Several bystanders jumped into the river to rescue the two victims who were found floating several minutes later.
The two were declared dead on arrival at Bailan District Hospital in nearby Pontevedra town.
