BACOLOD CITY – Two people were killed and two others injured after a tractor truck collided with a pickup truck on a rainy Saturday night in Hacienda Tibay Lopez, Barangay Efegenio Lizares, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Killed in the accident were pickup driver Nilo Epanto, 48, and passenger Ronjun Caballero, both residents of San Carlos City.
Injured were “Paul,” 42, of San Carlos City, and “Galy,” 50, the tractor truck driver from Sagay City.
Police Maj. Rhazl Jim Jocson, deputy chief of the Talisay City Police Station, said the tractor truck attempted to overtake another vehicle but swerved and hit the pickup truck head-on.
Jocson said Galy may have lost control of the vehicle due to its weight, although it was not carrying any cargo.
The crash occurred at 6:15 p.m. but was reported to police about an hour later, he added.
Caballero was declared dead at the hospital, while Epanto died the following morning.
The two injured individuals remain hospitalized, Jocson said.
Police are awaiting the decision of the victims’ families on whether to file charges against Galy.
